President Obama’s campaign committee has announced that its slogan for the 2012 presidential reelection run is “Forward.” “Where,” we mused, “have we heard that before?” And then it came to us. Does no one in the president’s inner circle have any familiarity with a poem that every schoolchild in the United States once read, and often were compelled to memorize? No? Well, see if this snippet stirs any memories: "Forward, the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns!" he said: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. "Forward, the Light Brigade!" Was there a man dismay'd? Not tho' the soldier knew Some one had blunder'd: Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. I dunno. It seems that all that intellectual firepower that attends a president would be able to come up something better than a word indelibly associated with suicidal stupidity. But then…
